Hey Catherine from Darcey’s Memoir class! Thanks so much for your comment. Yeah. Tough stuff. We live it. We relive it. We write it. We share it. If we’re lucky, we find kindred spirits who may care about it. Apparently , we both have. Yea for us! Party on!
This essay tells what every writer needs to know: being totally vulnerable and courageous on the page makes a reader relate on the deepest level. The writer shines a bright light on how to manage the hardest pain by navigating the narrow path to survival, starting with a smoke in the hospital bathroom that flies in the face of convention. What better way to tell the world "I am HERE and so was my lost boy! I am going to keep living for both of us!" Thanks, Suzy for this brave, beautiful piece. Wisdom & Words indeed....
I am in awe of the bravery on display in this piece; it's so raw and take-no-prisoners honest. And then, when I think I couldn't feel any more, lines like "The word soul exists for a reason, I reason. For reasons like this." completely bowl me over. Phenomenal!
I loved and was so moved by this piece when you first read it, Suzy! So glad more folks will get to read this brave, harrowing, funny, and most devastating tale.

Right? So beautifully written. Not a dry eye when she read this in my class. Just a perfect example of turning trauma into art.

Wow!!! What a story.... so many thoughts running through my head as I read through.
Wondering if you've met other moms who have had such bittersweet twin birth experience.
I'm sorry for your loss and all the trauma surrounding that difficult time.
This was a great piece of writing. I couldn't stop reading from the first word. Thank you for sharing.
The best story teller. You are gifted in many ways, Suzy. I have witnessed firsthand.
